Diploma requirements

On the basis of the following degrees obtained outside the Flemish Community:

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in the field of communication sciences
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in social sciences (e.g. political science, sociology)
A master’s degree in behavioural sciences (e.g. psychology)
A bridging or preparatory programme for a master’s degree in communication sciences

Language requirements

As the Digital Media and Society programme is completely taught in English, you are required to provide evidence of your proficiency in the English language. We accept the following language certificates:

• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), for which the minimum score required is 100 (on the internet-based test).
• IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System), for which the minimum overall score required is 7.0.
• Cambridge English Qualifications (CAE or CPE), for which the minimum score required is 184.
• ITACE (Interuniversity Test of Academic English), for which level C1 is required.

Students who have completed previous studies in an Anglo-Saxon country or students who have completed a fully English-taught bachelor degree (minimum 3 years), can provide copies of transcripts and diplomas as proof of their English proficiency.

•  Diploma(s) and transcripts of academic records (if you are still studying at the time of your application, you are requested to upload the provisional transcripts of your current studies to your application)

•  Translation of diploma(s) and transcripts (if the documents are not in English, French, Dutch or German, they should be translated by a registered translator)

•  An English translation of the content of courses that touch on social science research methodology (e.g. Introduction to Research Methods, Research Design, Qualitative Research Methods, Statistics, Quantitative Research Methods, Research Seminar, etc.). We expect that for at least one course applicants have written a research proposal/paper.
•All applicants have to provide us with an English translation of the learning goals, content and evaluation method(s) of these courses followed during previous studies that touch upon quantitative and/or qualitative research methods in social sciences.
•Important: we require substantive knowledge of the computational statistical programme SPSS, R or STATA. Your application will not be processed if this information is not provided.

•  English Proficiency Certificate (or proof of test registration; see Language requirements)

•  Copy of proof of payment of the application fee made either via bank transfer or via credit card

•  Copy of your national ID card

•  Letter of Motivation (one-page letter motivating your interest in the programme) and CV

It should at least include a problem statement, a research question, a short review of the academic literature and a discussion of the qualitative and/or quantitative research methods and analysis techniques that will be (or were) used to answer the research question.
