Students with a degree obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community

Applicants who have obtained or will obtain a Flemish secondary diploma (Diploma secundair onderwijs) are not required to submit an online application. They can start their registration here.

Direct

For admission to this programme, the general admission requirements for a bachelor programme apply:
1°      a Flemish degree of secondary education; awarded in the school year 2024-2025 or earlier;
1°/1   a Flemish degree of secondary education, educational qualification level 4, awarded as of the school year 2024-2025;
2°      a Flemish degree of short-course higher education;
3°      a Flemish degree of higher education for social advancement, with the exception of the certificate of pedagogic aptitude (Getuigschrift Pedagogische Bekwaamheid), or
4°      a degree or certificate, awarded in the context of the Flemish HBO (hoger beroepsonderwijs)
4°/1   a Flemish bachelor's or master's degree



Students with a degree not obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community

Students who did not obtain their previous degree(s) at an institution of the Flemish Community should submit an application via the Admissions Office: https://www.kuleuven.be/english/application/.

Diploma requirements

Qualifications for the French-speaking and German-speaking Community of Belgium:
-  the certificate of higher secondary education (CESS) obtained since 1994 (French-speaking Community);
-  the diploma giving access to higher education ‘Diplôme d'aptitude à accéder à l'enseignement supérieur’ (DAES) awarded by the Board of the French-speaking Community of Belgium;
-  a relevant higher education qualification awarded by an institution within the French Community of Belgium;
-  proof of successful completion of the university entrance examination (examen d’admission aux études universitaires);
-  a qualification similar to the above awarded in the German-speaking Community of Belgium, or by the Belgian Royal Military School.

Qualifications for degrees (to be) obtained outside Belgium:
-  The European Baccalaureate awarded by the Board of Governors of the European School;
-  The International Baccalaureate awarded by the International Baccalaureate Organization in Geneva;
- The official French Baccalaureate diploma acknowledged by AEFE;
-  The baccalaureate awarded by the Ecole du Shape in Casteau;
-  Applicants who obtained a secondary education degree or university degree awarded by a recognized educational institution from a country that is part of the European Economic Area or Switzerland can be admitted provided they can be admitted in that country to a programme that is equivalent to the Bachelor of Business Engineering.
-  Applicants who have been awarded the General Certificate of Education (GCE) can be eligible for admission if they can prove to have passed at least three A-Level subjects. Of these A-Level subjects, at least two have to be relevant: mathematics is required with minimum grade 'A' with an additional physics or chemistry course with minimum grade 'B'. The third subject is also relevant (can be Accounting, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Design & Technology, Digital Media & Design, Economics, Geography, Global Perspectives and Research, Information Technology, Law, Marine Science, Further Mathematics, Physics, Psychology or Sociology, others not accepted) and also requires a minimum grade 'B'. The subject Further Mathematics is highly recommended. If the GCE A-Level certificates have been obtained in a country that is not part of the European Economic Area or Switzerland, candidates are required to submit an additional proof of proficiency in mathematics (OMPT-D/AP Calculus AB, see below).
-  Applicants who obtained a secondary education degree or university degree awarded by a recognized educational institution from a country that is not part of the European Economic Area or Switzerland (incl. GCE), provided it grants access to an equivalent programme (as the BSc in Business Engineering) in that country.

Language requirements

All applicants except for the exempted categories mentioned below should submit proof of their English proficiency.

Accepted tests and minimum scores are:
- TOEFL IBT: 90 (min. subscores 20)
- IELTS: 6.5 (min. subscores 6.0)
- CPE certificate
- CAE certificate
No other tests than the above-mentioned are accepted.

Exemption from submitting a certificate of English language proficiency
- Applicants who have obtained a diploma of secondary education issued by the Flemish/French-speaking/German-speaking community.
- Applicants who have obtained a secondary education degree or a higher education degree in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the USA (the degree and transcripts suffice, provided they can prove that the entire study was completed in English).
- Applicants who have obtained a European Baccalaureate diploma and who can prove that at least 16 course hours per week were taught in English (Physical Education not included).
- Applicants who have obtained an International Baccalaureate if at least half of their courses are taught in the English language.
- Applicants holding an American secondary education degree obtained outside the USA but accredited by specific accreditation bodies.

Additional requirements

In order to be successful in the Bachelor of Business Engineering, a sound basis in mathematics is needed before one starts the programme. Please check here.

Applicants who obtained a secondary education degree or university degree awarded by a recognized educational institution from a country that is not part of the European Economic Area or Switzerland (incl. GCE), must submit an additional proof of their proficiency in mathematics. The accepted tests are:
- AP Calculus AB test with a minimum score of 4
- SOWISO OMPT-D test with a minimum score of 60%

Applicants in the following situations do not need to submit a proof of mathematics proficiency:
-  - Applicants who have obtained a degree awarded by a recognized educational institution from a country that is part of the European Economic Area or Switzerland
-  - Applicants who obtained the EB, the IB diploma or the official French Baccalaureate diploma acknowledged by AEFE

Applicants who obtained or are about to obtain the International Baccalaureate diploma are strongly advised to follow/have followed the Mathematics: analysis and approaches HL course.

All applicants need to provide information about the period between obtaining their diploma of secondary education and the start of the BBEng programme (gap years) by adding this document together with the supporting documents (if any) to their online application file.

Additionally, all applicants are required to take the the free online mathematics test developed by the faculty and upload a copy of their test results in their application file.

Additional information

All applications are evaluated by both KU Leuven admissions office and the relevant programme directors. Admission is ultimately at the discretion of the faculty. Please note that evaluation of applications is based on complete files only and that the criteria published are basic (eligibility) criteria only. Keep in mind that the evaluation process can only start after the applicant has submitted all necessary test results (language and/or proof of mathematics proficiency, if applicable). Test results must be submitted by the application deadline at the latest.
