Students with a degree obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community

After admission procedure

Candidates should send their application directly to the program director Bart Preneel macybsec@cs.kuleuven.be.
The documents required to apply depend on the candidate’s prior education.

1.  Candidates who have obtained one of the following degrees, must only submit a statement of purpose:

On the basis of the following degrees, or similar degrees, obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community:

  • Master of Electrical Engineering (Leuven)
  • Master of Electronics and ICT Engineering Technology (Leuven)
  • Master of Engineering: Computer Science (Leuven)
  • Master of Mathematical Engineering (Leuven)
  • Master of Mathematics (Leuven)
  • Master of Physics (Leuven)


2.  Candidates who have obtained one of the following degrees, must submit a statement of purpose, and a copy of their transcripts as proof of good study results:
-  a Master of Engineering Technology, other than Electronics and ICT, with sufficient affinity for ICT and a strong mathematical foundation
-  other masters from the field of applied sciences, with sufficient affinity for ICT and a strong mathematical foundation.
-  other master's degree or experience that adequately prepares for the Advanced Master of Cybersecurity.

Students with a degree not obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community

Students who did not obtain their previous degree(s) at an institution of the Flemish Community should submit an application via the Admissions Office: https://www.kuleuven.be/english/application/.

Diploma requirements

Candidates should hold a master's degree in ICT related fields; an academic degree of at least 4-year is required.

Language requirements

Additional requirements

  • All candidates must submit 2 reference letters
  • Candidates who did not obtain their prior academic degree(s) in one of the EEA countries, the UK, or Switzerland, must submit a GRE test resultwith their application file. Please request ETS to make your GRE score available to KU Leuven for verification, using the following Institutional Code: 0749.

Admission is ultimately at the discretion of the Faculty.
All applications will be evaluated by the program director.
Admission to the program is based on the applicant’s expected aptitude, which will be determined on the basis of the supplied information.
