C03K5B Advanced Negotiation: this course will exceptionally not be taught during AY 2024-2025.

(ECTS course description will be available as of 15th July).
C0Q19A EU Environmental, Energy & Climate Law (4 ECTS - 1st sem) : new course that will be offered starting AY 2024-2025 (course ECTS-sheet will be available as of 15th July)
C08B5B International Arbitration: as of AY 2024-2025 the course will be approached differently and the exam format will change from a paper to a written final exam. The former criteria and numerus clausus are no longer applied (updated course ECTS-sheet will be available as of 15th July).
B0B80A Law and Religion: the module Law and Religion, belonging to the Faculty of Canon Law, is offered during both semesters of the AY. Whereas the 1st semester module is taught fully through contact moments, the 2nd semester only has a start-up class and a final class moment. The course material is to be assimilated mostly through self-study.
LANGUAGE COURSES
If approved by the home university, an exchange student may add a language course to the exchange program, worth 4 ECTS. The language course can only be mentioned and approved on the Learning agreement. They will not be included in the KU Leuven registered program (KU Loket) nor will they be mentioned on the final transcript of records which we will provide at the end of the stay. A separate certificate as proof of participation will be issued by our Language schools only.
The ILT institute organizes a free Dutch course for Incoming Exchange students. All other language courses are organized by the CLT (≠ ILT) and do have a registration fee.
NON-FACULTY COURSES
When academically needed, exchange students are allowed to choose 2 courses per semester from another Faculty (= non-faculty courses). Only non-Faculty courses from the pre-approved list will be allowed: please check the link 'Non-faculty courses AY 24-25’ under the tab ‘Courses’ on the Exchange webpage. The main focus of the exchange program should however remain on the Law/Criminology courses.-
IMPORTANT remarks about Courses for Exchange Students
Please note that the List of courses may be subject to some changes in the transition period between 2 academic years. The list is to be considered final for the upcoming academic year from 15th July of each year.
When building an exchange program, students do not have to limit themselves to courses from their own field of study. Criminology students may also choose from the range of law courses and vice versa for law students. This of course at the condition of fulfilling the required previous knowledge as indicated on each course ECTS sheet.
LEVEL OF COURSES
All offered courses are on Master level with the exception of the course C00J0B International and European Human Rights Law and C02A0A Victimology and the Criminal Justice system.
COURSE INFO
Each course title will link you to its ECTS sheet. Please read this information carefully when deciding on your program. It provides a short description of the content and information on the method of evaluation. Do check as well the required prior knowledge (e.g. European taxation, International taxation, ..) to determine whether you will be able to enroll for the course.
EVALUATION METHOD = PAPER
We advise students to only choose a course in which the method of evaluation consists of a paper (e.g. Criminal policy, The court of justice,…) if their English language proficiency is at least B2 with sufficient academic writing skills and having some experience on papers.
BALANCED PROGRAMME
A full semester workload equals 30 ECTS (Full year = 60 ECTS) or 6 to 7 courses per semester but we allow a minimum of 24 ECTS. Students should try to balance their program by making a 'healthy' mix of 3-4-6 ECTS courses and avoid overloading the program with too many 3 ECTS courses.
NUMERUS CLAUSUS
Incoming Exchange students are free to choose from all courses offered on our List of Courses below. If the ECTS sheet of a course refers to a ‘numerus clausus’, this only applies to the Leuven Students with exception of the course C08B5B International Arbitration (details see above).
DUTCH MODULES
Dutch speaking exchange students, coming to us under Erasmus Bélgica exchange, coming from Dutch speaking partners (The Netherlands, Aruba, etc). or being of the (partial) Belgian nationality thus being able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the Dutch language, may opt to also take on courses from our Dutch program, if and when approved by their home institution. For the program link and exceptions see below or contact the Incoming Exchange Coordinator. -
