After admission procedure

Diploma requirements

This programme is open to students holding a master's degree in Translation, a master's degree in Interpreting, or a master's degree in Multilingual Communication.

Students with a similar MA/MSc, a BA in another field than Translation (minimum 180 ECTS) or any other degree must provide proof of relevant experience.

Admissions for any of these will be verified on a person-to-person basis.

On the basis of the following degrees, or similar degrees, obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community:

  • Master in de journalistiek (Brussel)
  • Master in de meertalige communicatie (Antwerpen)
  • Master in het tolken (Antwerpen)
  • Master in het vertalen (Antwerpen)
  • Master of Multilingual Communication: Cross-Cultural Communication Management (Brussel)


Language requirements

The Postgraduate Programme in Translation Technology is an English-language programme. Students' proficiency in English should minimally be at a B2 level. Students with a degree obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community are not required to provide further proof of proficiency in English.



Students with a degree not obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community

Students who did not obtain their previous degree(s) at an institution of the Flemish Community should submit an application via the Admissions Office: https://www.kuleuven.be/english/application/.

Applicants must prove their English language proficiency through either of these standardised tests:
  • - IELTS Academic, with a minimum score of 6.5. The minimum sub-score is 6.0.
  • - TOEFL iBT, with a minimum score of 94. The minimum sub-score is 20 out of 30.
  • - CPE Certificate or CAE Certificate, with a minimum overall score of 173.
  • - Interuniversity Test of Academic English (ITACE), with a C1 or C2 result.

An exemption from the proof of English proficiency by means of the above-mentioned tests can be given to applicants with a secondary education diploma or a higher education degree earned in Australia, English-speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the USA. In these cases, the degree and transcripts suffice, provided that they show that the entire study was completed in English. Students who completed their studies in a satellite campus located in another country than the main campus of the university are not eligible for this exemption.
