Master of Multilingual Communication: Cross-Cultural Communication Management (Brussels)

Master of Arts

1. Master one or two foreign languages at the C1 or C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Modern Foreign Languages for the following skills: language comprehension (listening and reading), speaking (production and interaction) and writing.

2. Have a thorough command of English and one other language, both in written and oral communication, taking into account the specific nature of different professional contexts in which a multilingual communication specialist operates.

3. Apply advanced linguistic knowledge in a variety of written and oral communicative situations.

4. Apply insights from research into organizational communication, multilingual and cross-cultural contexts to authentic communicative situations.

5. Apply advanced knowledge of the cultural and institutional contexts of the language areas under study, as well as their development, to a variety of communicative situations.

6. Independently and critically reflect on various aspects of communication, based on profound knowledge of and insights into the linguistic, cultural and institutional context. The problem-solving abilities applied in this process can also be used in a broader context.

7. Make adequate use of specific technological tools for oral and written professional communication. Evaluate the use of these tools in different communicative situations.

8. Function effectively as a multilingual communication specialist in a multidisciplinary and international environment, both independently and in a team.

9. Identify the specificity of the communicative context in organizations, with particular awareness of the multilingual and cross-cultural situation; be familiar with the accompanying norms and act accordingly.

10. Independently conceive, plan and conduct research at the level of a junior researcher in the field of discourse studies, cross-cultural communication, or organizational communication. Successfully report on this research, both in oral and written form, to experts in the field as well as a broader audience.

11. Actively follow up on novel developments in research on organizational, multilingual, and cross-cultural communication, as well as more broadly research on language and culture. Critically reflect on these developments and situate them in a broader social and intercultural context.

12. Recognize deontological and ethical aspects of research and act in accordance with them.

13. Integrate linguistic and cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity in scientific work, the professional environment and the social debate.
