2nd specialisation

Masters in rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy can re-enrol once for another (additional) specialisation after obtaining the Flemish master's degree. These students can (re)enrol independently in this initial Master's programme, and then contact the FaBeR Helpdesk to get the ISP in order. These students follow a reduced study program. It is not possible to follow both the option sports physiotherapy and manual therapy under diploma contract within the specialisation musculoskeletal disorders because this concerns the same specialisation. Students in this situation are referred to information under Opleidingsonderdelen uitsluitend via creditcontract Faculteit Bewegings- en Revalidatiewetenschappen (Leuven) or the FaBeR Helpdesk.

Students with a degree not obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community

Students who did not obtain their previous degree(s) at an institution of the Flemish Community should submit an application via the Admissions Office: https://www.kuleuven.be/english/application/.

You can find a list of core documents, which should be submitted with every application, here: https://www.kuleuven.be/english/application/requesteddocuments.

Diploma requirements

Students with a bachelor's degree in physiotherapy will first have to complete a preparatory programme. To be admitted to the Master of Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy students need to pass at least 4 of the 6 courses of the preparatory programme. This means that maximally 2 courses of the preparatory programme can be retaken during the master’s program. To obtain the master's degree, however, students must successfully complete all the courses of the preparatory programme.

Language requirements

a. English
All non-Flemish students are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English by submitting the results of an internationally recognised language proficiency test:
- IELTS: overall score of 7 (with at least a score 6.5 in each of the four components);
- TOEFL (internet-based): overall score of 90 with component scores of at least 22.
No other proficiency tests will be accepted, and absolutely no application will be considered without such a test certificate.

For students who hold a prior degree awarded by an English-speaking university from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the USA, the certified diploma and transcripts suffice, provided they confirm that the entire university study was completed in English. Absolutely no other diplomas will be accepted as evidence even if the applicant has followed an exclusively English-taught programme.

b. Dutch
All non-Flemish students must have a basic knowledge of Dutch (Dutch Level 1 - CEFR level A2.) before starting the clinical internships of the Master Rehab. A Dutch introductory course (level 1) is included in the Preparatory Programme. However, for the specialisations Mental Health Care and Children, a minimum of level 2 is required, while level 4 is highly recommended due to the need for effective verbal communication and linguistic skills, especially as many patients in these areas may not be proficient in English. For more information, please contact FaBeR Helpdesk.

Additional requirements

All applicants must submit an official document stating the total amount of clinical practice hours (physiotherapy-specific) completed during their previous studies. Additionally, applicants must assign the correct subject category to each of the courses they have taken up in their previous study programme. Please use the template Internship & Curriculum form .

Additional information

Students cannot apply for the Master Rehab directly but have to apply for the Preparatory Programme: Master Rehab.

Application deadline Preparatory Programme: For general deadlines for applications check http://www.kuleuven.be/english/application.

All students (incl. Belgian students holding a non-Flemish degree) must submit their application before October 1st in order to be considered for the Preparatory Programme.
