Medical Imaging for Physiotherapists (B-KUL-L09F5A)

3 ECTSEnglish13 Second termCannot be taken as part of an examination contract
POC Revalidatiewetenschappen en kinesitherapie

The objectives of this course are:
1 / To familiarise the student with the various radiological imaging modalities so that
    - the student has knowledge concerning
           *  RX, CT, ultrasound, MRI
           * Advantages / disadvantages of each technique
           *  typical protocols of the examination
    - The student can inform the patient about past / future radiological examinations.
2 / To familiarise the student with the radiological terminology so that
    - The student is able to correctly interpret a full report of an imaging examination
    - The student can "translate" the radiological jargon into understandable information for the patient;
    - The student is able to indicate the described abnormalities on the medical images to the patient.
3 / To provide the student with basic knowledge of the radiological interpretation of an imaging examination so that
    - The student is able to recognize the most frequently occurring pathology on medical images,
    - The student is able to assess the severity of the abnormality;
    - The student is able to adapt physical therapy in accordance with the follow-up radiological examinations
4 / The increase medical knowledge (ie physiopathology, histology, therapy ,...) of the student by interpretation of medical imaging

Prerequisites for students who are not enrolled in the Bachelor/Master programme of rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy or Master of Movement and Sports Sciences, but who wish to include the course as an optional course in the diploma contract of their programme: These students must contact the course coordinator. On the basis of the student's previous knowledge and motivation, the coordinator will decide whether or not to admit the student to the course.

Students have knowledge of :
- Functional Anatomy
- Anatomy and Physiology of Organ Systems
- Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology and Motor Learning
in particular, knowledge of the anatomy of the human body.

Mixed prerequisite:
