Historical Data Management (B-KUL-F0CB1A)
Aims
Historical Data Management explains how to set up a relational database for historical data, how to model data such as time and space in the context of this, how to import existing data and tailor it to a specific research question. This course uses the user-friendly FileMaker Pro environment, which has broad functionalities and permits export of the data to any other format. In the ‘outlook’ the possibilities of online publishing will be briefly addressed.

Previous knowledge
No specific knowledge of databases is necessary. Elementary knowledge of quantitative research methods is a plus.

Evaluation
Evaluation: Historical Data Management (B-KUL-F2CB1a)
Explanation
The students will be evaluated on the basis of their presentation of a purpose-made relational database of a historical subject. 80% of the grade will be based on the quality of the database, 20% on the presentation of it, where all students should be present (length normally 10 minutes and 5 minutes for questions, depending on the number of students).
