Please do not select a Research Track via your ISP, but use the application of the Faculty to apply for these elective courses. Students are asked to rank their choice of elective course and students are distributed amongst the available places in each Research Track by an allocation tool. Each research track has a limited number of students that can enroll for a course in order to facilitate interactive teaching. More information about this procedure will follow in the first week of the academic year.

Students from another Faculty or programme who wish to participate in a Research Track will need to submit an application via the following form. Only if the maximal number of students per Research Track is not yet reached, students from other programmes can be admitted. More information regarding this procedure and the conditions for applying for these courses can be consulted via the website/form.

If there aren't enough applications for a Research Track, students will be contacted and asked to choose another Research Track.

Students know how different technologies and experiments are strategically used to answer fundamental and clinical questions within the domain of cardiovascular biology and disease. This will help them at developing a critical and open-minded attitude.

Cell biology, molecular biology, genetics

Evaluation

Evaluation: Hot Topics in Fundamental and Medical Aspects of Cardiovascular Biology (B-KUL-E24N6a)

Type : Continuous assessment without exam during the examination period
Description of evaluation : Paper/Project, Report, Presentation, Participation during contact hours

Paper/Report/Presentation/Participation:
Hallmark or recent papers related to the topic are provided to the students, or the students receive a specified task to select papers themselves. They present the papers during the course or discuss the papers during the course followed by a written task afterwards. The presentation format varies from topic to topic and from tutor to tutor (e.g. poster, slide, or narrated presentation, debate, journal club style presentation, written report, etc). Tasks are usually group tasks. Evaluation is based on the contribution to the task and presentation, and on interactive discussion during their own and their fellow student’s presentations. Students will obtain a score for each course; the final score will be the mathematical mean of the separate scores.

Attendance at the lectures:
Attendance is mandatory. All absences must be justified, by doctor’s certificate or other proof of legitimate absence. Unwarranted absence will automatically result in a zero score for the respective topic. For a justified absence, that week is not counted in the mean score. In case of multiple justified absences, replacement tasks will be arranged.

Evaluation during the 3rd examination period is similar but based on a task and presentation on an individual basis.
