  • To improve the student's skills to read and interpret Latin canonical texts
  • To learn how to use a Latin dictionary and to get familiar with most relevant editions
  • To get familiar with the typical vocabulary and expressions used in canonical Latin
  • To get familiar with the large range of canonical Latin texts as there are: statutory, juridicial and doctrinal texts, official meetings and historical sources.

Mixed prerequisite:

During class texts are analysed and translated focusing on difficulties and particular expressions. Students will be introduced how a Latin phrase is analysed and how a Latin dictionary is used.

The exams consists of 2 parts. The first part assesses the student’s ability to analyze and translate the texts discussed in class (15 out of 20 points). This part is closed book. The second part consists of the analysis and translation of an unseen text, for which the student can use a dictionary.
