This course evaluates the following learning outcomes:

The student

1.1  (BIM) analyzes ICT-related operational problems and questions taking into account the specific business context.

1.4  (BIM) critically reflects about the internal context of the organization and on how ICT can influence the internal context in order to better support the organizational processes and / or reorganize and automate processes.

2.1  (BIM) analyzes ICT-related strategic problems and questions taking into account the specific business context, the stakeholders involved (policy, managers, users, consultants, ...) and the wider environment in which the organization operates.

2.5 (BIM) critically reflects on the external context of the organization and how ICT can be tailored to it in order to better support organizational processes and / or reorganize and automate processes.

3.1 (BIM) plans, organizes, evaluates and optimizes decision making analysis processes (added value by analyzing operational data), ICT project management (organization of an IT project), governance and management of IT services (organization of the IT department) and manages the planning , organization and evaluation of the business processes regarding decision analysis, software project management, governance and management of IT services take into account the specific business context and the integration of the different processes.

4.1 (BIM) critically reflects on how social, organizational and technical trends affect the labor market and ICT in the organization, taking into account (the consequences for) the stakeholders involved.

4.2 (BIM) follows the labor market debate and the current reporting on technical and current ICT themes.

4.3 (BIM) outlines and interprets trends on the ICT market, and can take a critically sound standpoint on ICT related social themes, taking into account (the consequences for) the stakeholders involved.

10.1 (BIM) keeps his / her knowledge of ICT themes and the market up-to-date, both on the basis of practical, policy-oriented, technical and scientific information.

10.2 (BIM) integrates policy-oriented, technical, scientific and practice-oriented information on specific ICT-market-related themes, and takes a substantiated view on the relevance of the specific theme for the organization.

10.3  (BIM) critically reflects on how important evolutions and innovations in ICT can be translated into the IT policy in the organization, taking into account the specific business context.

 

The courses in the domain Strategy, Management and Entrepreneurship develop the necessary management knowledge and skills. The bachelor programme focuses on the development of a broad basic knowledge in the field of general management, corporate strategy, marketing, HRM, and on the development of skills in communication, working together in team, and negotiation in a business environment. In the master programme, the students perfect their management skills by studying complex management questions and solving practical business problems.

IT governance, IT service management and operational IT management are essential ingredients for the proper functioning of the IT department in an organization and for the realization of the organization's goals.  

The specific competences to be attained are:  

* The student is able to reflect critically on theory and practice  

* The student has profound insight into the ICT policy of a company  

The key objectives of the course are: 

* The student understands the role of IT governance and IT service- and operations management in an organization as a whole and in the IT department in particular.  

* The student can describe and understands the purpose, the specific goals and the activities of IT governance and management processes and the organizational structures that are involved.

* The student critically reflects on the relevant research, standards and frameworks of IT governance and IT service- and operations management.

* The student can apply IT governance and management research, standards, frameworks, principles and processes to a given organization.

Flipped classroom

The course consists of:

1. Lectures where the topics are presented, elaborated and discussed.
2. Exercises where the topics are applied to specific situations. Exercises are prepared by the students and discussed during class.
3. Self-study, in particular the reading of research papers.

Features of the evaluation:

The exam is a closed book exam. Students can only use the course material (course text, slide prints, own notes) to the exam. The exam is oriented towards applying IT governance and management research, standards, frameworks, principles, processes and techniques to specific situations. 

 

Determination of final grades

The grades are determined by the lecturer on the basis of the answer to the questions. 

 

Second exam opportunity

The features of the evaluation and determination of final grades are identical to those of the first examination opportunity, as described above.
