Postgraduate Programme in Translation Technology: Translation Technology Modules (Brussels)

The Postgraduate Programme in Translation Technology is an international leading programme at the Faculty of Arts of KU Leuven which provides students and professionals with the necessary technological knowledge and ICT competences to pursue a career in translation and localisation in the 21st century.

Participants will

  • acquire relevant more advanced knowledge and skills to use CAT tools and translation workflow systems efficiently at all stages of the translation process;
  • are able to translate content from complex file formats and exchange data in different formats between tools;
  • acquire relevant more advanced knowledge of functionalities of different types of machine translation and their application;
  • learn how to apply pre-editing and post-editing processes;
  • become acquainted with the technical, organisational and communication aspects related to multilingual translation projects;
  • put relevant project management tools into practice by setting up a virtual translation agency project;
  • become acquainted with technical and practical aspects of localisation;
  • develop relevant skills in using tools in the various fields of application (localisation of websites, software, e-learning, documentation, apps or games);
  • acquire knowledge of the key concepts related to technical writing;
  • develop relevant technical writing skills and techniques while using industry-specific software;
  • become acquainted with the basic concepts of the Python programming language and are able to apply them in the translation process;
  • become acquainted with the various aspects of audio-visual translation and are able to apply them in the various fields of application (including subtitling, speech recognition, dubbing, respeaking, audio-description).
