Physical Education in Elementary School (B-KUL-O0G97A)
Aims
The Physical Education in Primary Education course aims to provide students with a scientifically based frame of reference to teach the subject of Physical Education in Primary Education with the necessary competence. The learning objectives in the field of content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge and insights are based on the basic competencies of the Teacher as formulated by the Flemish Government with an emphasis on the functional wholes/basic competencies (BC) 1 to 5 (responsibilities towards the learner), with reference to the functional units/basic competencies (BC) 6 to 10. Based on a specific educational vision on the subject of Physical Education and to make its academic focus explicit, these functional entities/basic competencies (BC) are translated into subject-specific learning outcomes.

Content
The contents of this OLA are concretized from the decree-determined professional competencies for teachers in specific themes for the broad domain of physical education (PE):
(1) the PE teacher as a supervisor of learning processes
(2) the PE teacher as educator
(3) the PE teacher as a (subject) content expert
(4) the PE teacher as organizer
(5) the PE teacher as innovator and researcher
Specific attention is given to (1) teaching curricula that focus on the development of fundamental motor skills, and (2) positive behavior management in primary school children.

3 ects. Physical Education in Elementary School: School Placement (B-KUL-O0G97a)
Content
Students do a school placement in a primary school for the subject of physical education. The contents are as follows:
1. Observe at least 6 Physical Education (PE) lessons from your own internship classes in terms of teacher and student behavior.
2. Teach at least 32 physical education lessons over at least 6 weeks.
3. Guidance is provided through discussions with cooperating teachers and internship supervisor(s), as well as through the portfolio.
