Seminar and Internship Swimming: Part 1 (B-KUL-L01I9B)
Aims
After completing the course “Seminars swimming” the student :
- is able to apply dry land training to a high level swimming program
- is able to make a SWOT analysis of swimmers of international (youth) level
- is able to convert a long term athlete development plan into short term goals and training activities
- is able to analyze, evaluate and synthesize scientific swimming literature
- participate in permanent educational programs for trainers and coaches
After completing the course “Seminars swimming” the student:
- can train swimmers of international (youth) level.
- shows didactical and coaching skills both in a training context as well as in a competition context
- have the attitude to independently organize internship activities and communicate appropriately
Previous knowledge
Previous knowledge:
Highly recommended to have taken the courses Training and coaching swimming (eg L02D7B) and Internship swimming (eg L041DB), and in possession of the VTS qualification Trainer B.
The student is already familiar with the various aspects of sports coaching of (young) athletes, both on a recreational and at club level. The student must have been actively involved in the supervision of (young) athletes and in the organization of training courses, (mini-) courses and competitions (youth) league level.
Prerequisites credit contract:
The student is in possession of the diploma:
- Bachelor in physical education and human movement sciences
AND has taken the following courses in advance or follows it simultaneously with this course unit:
- L02M2A: Performance Training: advanced principles and applications
- L04E0B: Nutrition: health and performance related aspects
- L08H7B: Sports coaching including practice, part 1 Or L04N4A Sports coaching including practice
- L02M6A: prevention through screening and training
Prerequisites for students who are not registrered for the program bachelor of Physical Education and Movement Sciences/Master of Movement and Sports Sciences, but wish to include the course as a component of choice in their program:
These students should contact the coordinator of the course. On the basis of prior knowledge and motivation, the coordinator will determine whether or not the student can be admitted to the course.

Content
By means of the internship, students are familiarized with the various aspects of sports performance coaching of (young) athletes, and recreational athletes at the level of the club and the federation. During the internship, the student will be actively involved in the guidance and coaching of swimmers and in the organization of trainings, internships and competitions at competition level. Thus, the student can be fully proficient in the practice of training and coaching performance athletes of all ages and skill levels.
The internship consists of internal and external independent training under the guidance of an internal and external supervisor and is spread over the entire academic year.
