Grammar of classical Japanese (B-KUL-F0TF9A)
Aims
To impart the students the skills to read and understand texts in the classical literary language. In particular the students should be able to analyse the classical verbal forms, adjectives and auxiliary verbs morphologically and indicate their function and meaning.
Previous knowledge
A good practical knowledge of modern Japanese. Having followed minimum two years of Japanese.

Content
This course provides an introduction to the morphology and syntax of classical Japanese, in contrast to modern Japanese. More specifically, we will deal with flection, the classes of the verbs and adjectives, the particles (joshi) and the suffixverbs (jodôshi).
