This course is meant for students without or with very little prior knowledge of German. First of all, the aim is to optimize the reading- and writing skills of the students, so that any possible barrier to read or write any German text will disappear (with the necessary means, off course).  Due to the size of the groups and the limited number of contact hours the oral language skills will only be dealt with marginally in this course.

No specific prior knowledge is required.

This course is identical to the following courses:
D0T41A : German I: Introductory Course
D0W45A : German (No longer offered this academic year)

Apart from this, the syllabus also offers a number of (economic) texts, supporting the seen grammar, expanding on the vocabulary and teaching the “habits” of Germans.

Study material:

  • Course material and (electronic) exercises via Toledo

During the first lectures are taught in Dutch. After a few weeks, the lectures will be given in German.

1. every week students prepare (part of) a chapter from the syllabus by means of self study. In preparation for the thematic modules, students also prepare exercises on Toledo.

2. Contact:
a) explanation and expansion of grammatical theory
b) classroom (written and oral) exercises
c) feedback on the prepared grammar exercises
d) thematic modules: listening, reading, writing and speaking exercises (active participation)
