Aims
To understand the evolution of Chinese economy in all its facets, both domestic and international.
To understand the economic policy of the Chinese government as well as the implications for Chinese and global economy, Europe in particular.
Previous knowledge
At least a course in general economics, and preferably a course in international economics.

Content

Overview and analysis of various aspects of China's economic transition and current state of the economy.
1. China's transition and reopening since 1978.
2. The "nervous system" of China’s contemporary economy: the organizational structure of business enterprises as well as the financial, fiscal and energy systems.
3. A human perspective: demographics, the labor market, domestic consumption and social problems.
4. Hot topics: Environmental protection and China's economic position on the world stage.

Explanation
Evaluation caracteristics
The evaluation consists of a written, closed book exam with open questions.
Determination end result
The course is assessed by the teaching staff, as communicated via Toledo and the examination arrangements. The result is calculated and expressed by an integer out of 20.
Evaluation second examination opportunity
The evaluation characteristics and the determination of the end result of the second examination opportunity are identical to those of the first examination opportunity as described above.
