Aims
After completing the course, the student:
- will have basic knowledge of the psychotherapeutic principles with emphasis on psychotherapeutic strategies that are most relevant for physiotherapists in mental health.
- will be able to make an optimal referral of the patient to a psychotherapist, if necessary.
- has received a general introduction and hands-on experience into the most important psychotherapeutic methods.
- has advanced knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy for physiotherapists (including acceptance and commitment therapy, rational emotive therapy; mindfulness, solution focused therapy, …).
- has knowledge on systemic therapy for physiotherapists
Previous knowledge
Prerequisites for students who are not enrolled in the Bachelor/Master programme of rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy, but who wish to include the course as an optional course in the diploma contract of their programme: These students must contact the course coordinator. On the basis of the student's previous knowledge and motivation, the coordinator will decide whether or not to admit the student to the course.
Previous knowledge (highly recommended)
Students have knowledge of the major psychopathological diseases in children and adults.

Evaluation
Evaluation: Psychotherapeutic Methods (B-KUL-L27F9b)
Explanation
The evaluation of this course will consist of 3 parts:
- A peer evaluation of the active participation in the problem-based learning modules and the preparation of the final presentation.
- A group presentation in class
- A written exam, consisting of open questions about the content of the course.
Weighting factors for partial scores will be presented to the students in the first lectures of the first semester and posted on Toledo.
The students are expected to be acquainted with the education and the examination regulations of the KU Leuven and the faculty additions, including regulations concerning plagiarism.
Information about retaking exams
Potential re-evaluation in September will consist of a written exam, consisting of open questions about the content of the course.
