Aims
Students are introduced to the languages and cultures of Latin America and study them from a European perspective. More specifically, students are able to
- describe the linguistic and cultural organisation of the region and apply the acquired insights to communication with the region
- reflect on cross-cultural challenges for communicating with the region concerned
- report and reflect on the findings in a forum

Content
The students deepen their knowledge of Latin America from a broad European perspective. In lectures and guest lectures they receive a general introduction to the linguistic, cultural and organisational landscape of the region, and zoom in on the main challenges of cultural communication with the region (26 contact hours).
In a case study, students reflect on a number of challenges specific to communication with Latin America: they take on the role of researcher or facilitator of intercultural dialogue (fieldwork, interviews, testimonials, organisation of debate with relevant stakeholders) (6 contact hours).
All students take part in a forum that reflects on cross-cultural communication and globalisation through guest lectures, testimonies, visits, …(2 contact hours)
