Content
This course offers an introduction to ethnographic research, with special attention for research within a development context.
By means of a research topic chosen by each student, via workshops and through successive (micro-)assignments that make part of their portfolio, students are guided through the first phases of ethnographic research.
Topics treated include (but are not limited to) the colonial legacy and the decolonization of scientific research and development; ethics of field research and analysis; Data management; ways of ‘knowing’; and writing ethnography.

Students' active participation is required. They therefore:
- attend the lectures
- and actively participate in the discussions;
- actively participate in the workshops
- engage in micro-assignments throughout the semester; these are discussed during the contact hours and make part of their individual portfolio.
