Aims
In recent years, the business landscape has witnessed a significant shift towards greater concern and attention to the well-being of organizations' most valuable asset: their employees. Both mental and digital well-being have become critical aspects in the modern organizational environment. This trend is further underscored by the growing international research and the development of legislative frameworks aimed at supporting well-being initiatives within organizations. This course acknowledges the substantive importance of this theme. It offers valuable knowledge and skills that are of great signifance to future leaders of organizations striving to create a healthy and productive work environment.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate awareness of diverse international legal frameworks and their implications for organizations and employees, particularly in an international context.
2. Identify and understand key manifestations of mental (ill)health in employees, including their origins and underlying factors.
3. Analyze current trends digitalization in organizations critically and evaluate their potential impact on employee experiences and productivity.
4. Apply evidence-based interventions as future leaders to support the mental and digital well-being of employees.
Previous knowledge
Prerequisite knowledge in psychology and personnel and organization is valuable for this course.

Content
The course will look at aspects such as:
- International Legal Frameworks and Government Perspectives
- Key topics in General Mental Well-being (e.g., stress and burnout, violence and harassment, discrimination)
- Key topics in Digital Well-being (e.g., Industry 4.0 implications for employees, cyberstress, connectivity and disconnection)
- Well-being Interventions at various levels (individual, job, team, and organizational)
Each component will cover definitions, theories, empirical insights, and practical applications. The topics covered align closely with the research and practical collaborations of Baillien, ensuring a relevant and up-to-date curriculum.
Course material
All course material – including powerpoints, video material, scientific papers, and book chapters – will be shared on the university’s online platform of Toledo.

The course will employ a variety of teaching methodologies, including traditional lectures, self-study, and workshops featuring guest speakers who are experts in the field.
Evaluation
Evaluation: Mental and Digital Well-Being (B-KUL-H75926)
Explanation
The assessment for this course will consist of a closed-book examination comprising a combination of open-ended and multiple-choice questions (no correction for incorrect answers). The examination will be held during the regular university examination periods (EP1 and EP3). Evaluation criteria will focus on understanding the content and its application in realistic organizational scenarios.
The final course grade will be solely determined based on the score achieved in the examination.
