POC Toegepaste taalkunde Brussel

The guided conversations from TB B1 are replaced by short presentations, sometimes followed by open discussions. Students prepare presentations on current topics and also listen to authentic sources related to those themes. The aim is to improve listening and speaking skills.

The basic vocabulary is expanded to 9000 words and collocations, which corresponds to level B1-B2 (Portavoces textbook, level 2).

The basic structures are reviewed, and the question-answer pace is increased through self-study of the Taaltempo textbook.

The remaining time is dedicated to expanding language structures (level B1-B2), including the use of the imperfecto and pluscuamperfecto de subjuntivo; expressing hypotheses and doubt, indirect speech, agreement of tenses; expressing opinions, colloquial language, and composing slides and texts; there is also attention given to exploring interesting websites, the difference between written and oral discourse, verbal and non-verbal communication, intonation, and tempo in Spanish, as well as remediation of previously covered topics (past tenses, moods, pronouns…).

The course material is available via Toledo. A part of the course is progressively created and compiled by the students and made available on Toledo.

The lessons are conducted in Spanish. The textbook Portavoces and other instructional (remedial) materials are contrastive Spanish/Dutch. Near-native speakers of English receive a translation in English.

Flipped classroom

Students are expected to independently review the basic structures from TBIB and have the opportunity to ask questions in class.
