Aims
- The course aims to introduce students to basic concepts, problems and methods of reasoning in philosophy.
- Students will be familiar with fundamental ethical theories, arguments and distinctions, as well as their role and significance contemporary moral thinking.
- Students will be able to understand, criticize and construct philosophical arguments.
- Students will learn how to apply theoretical insights to practical contexts, and how to analyze and assess a variety of timely issues and problems through different ethical frameworks.
- Students will improve their critical reasoning skills to reflect on the challenges of contemporary economic and social life.

Content
- The course begins with an introduction to philosophical thinking, its role and purpose, with a view on how to recognize and evaluate philosophical arguments.
- The course will survey some of the most important theories and thinkers of philosophical ethics: consequentialism, deontology, contractarianism, virtue ethics, feminism and care ethics.
- We will turn to contemporary issues and learn to apply ethical theories to practical problems in society, economic life, the workplace, the family and personal life.
- Students will be encouraged to think about fundamental ethical questions, such as “How should I live?”, “How should I conduct myself in relations to others?”, “How to deal with moral disagreement?”, and to reflect on ethical beliefs by examining their sources and underlying assumptions.
