Aims

  • Introduction to graduate level research.
  • Improve presentation skills (through the presentation of a recent working paper in the student’s field and through the presentation of the student’s own research).
  • Prepare students to assess, evaluate and improve economic research (through the writing of a critical but balanced referee report).
  • Improve the student’s writing skills.
     

Upon completion of this course, the student is able to:

  • Better understand the nature of economic research.
  • Understand how to write for a scientific audience.
  • Assess and evaluate economic research.
  • Improve the ability to present successfully.

The course is a mix of lectures (on presentation skills, writing a referee report and getting scientific work published), presentation sessions by students and feedback sessions.

Good understanding and active knowledge of basic and advanced economic principles and methods

Presentation 1: 30% of the final grade.

Referee report: 30% of the final grade.

Presentation 2: 40% of the final grade.
