Aims
- Understand – by using a specific legal challenge, regulatory problem or other legal topic as an illustration - at a general level how to select and specify a research topic for an academic paper;
- Gain insight into the characteristics and requirements of writing an academic paper;
- Learn to formulate a research question, a research aim and working plan for an academic paper;
- Learn to find relevant sources and other reference material for the argumentation of the paper and gain an insight in the academic relevance of the material used;
- Understand the relevance of a good understanding of and well-thought approach on the methods used in the research underlying the paper;
- Learn how to formulate, use and defend (by detailing a normative framework) the inclusion of a personal perspective on the subject matter of the paper.
- Learn to work and team up with another academic in writing an academic paper;
- Experience the effect of mutual stimulation and inspiration by working in a team; - Experience the academic relevance and additional academic benefit of combining different research areas and legal domains in one paper.

Activities
6 ects. Master's Thesis Part II: Joint Research Training (B-KUL-C02F2a)
Content
Students will form groups of two or three students with different research areas. The aim is to find a subject to write an article about by combining different legal areas (intradisciplinary approach). In cooperation with the director of studies of the Research Master, the students will look for a senior researcher who has experience with the subject. This senior researcher will then coach, and regularly meet the students with the aim of writing collectively an article which is publishable in a reputed law review.
