The student

  • has a basic knowledge of ecclesiastical marriage law. He/she is familiar with the legal terminology, the theological framework and the relevant sources.

  • is familiar with the technique of annulment and the norms of the invalidity process.
  • is able to identify legal rules and problems using various specific cases.

In this course, the student acquires a basic knowledge on the ecclesiastical norms concerning marriage and the grounds for marriage annulment and the corresponding processes. Also, a detailed analysis of canons 1055-1065 and 1671-1691 of the Code of Canon Law will familiarise students with ecclesiastical laws related to marriage.

This course requires:

  • Code of Canon Law (Codex Iuris Canonici 1983, Latin-English edition) at their disposal. Students can buy a copy of the Code at the Faculty of Canon Law.
