Bachelor of Philosophy (Programme for students started before 2020-2021) (Leuven) (180 ECTS) Bachelor of Arts
Students with a degree obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community
There will be no new enrollments for this programme as of the academic year 2020-2021. This programme is currently being reformed. Students can enroll for the new programme which will be available starting from the academic year 2020-2021. Admission requirements for the new programme remain the same.
For students who acquired less than 120 credits in the old programme, the programme director decides whether they can re-enroll for the old programme or should register for the new programme instead. The decision will be based on the specific courses for which the student obtained the credits on the one hand and on the exit scenario for the old programme on the other hand.

In 2020-2021 the Institute of Philosophy has started with a new Bachelor of Philosophy programme. While the new programme is introduced step by step (in 2020-2021 the 1st stage, in 2021-2022 the 2nd stage, and in 2022-2023 the third stage), the old programme will phase out.
Students who didn’t complete the old BA programme yet, must follow the transitional measures (see below). For students who acquired less than 165 credits in the old bachelor programme, the Programme Director decides whether the student should continue in the old programme or register for the new programme instead. The decision will be based on the specific courses for which the student obtained the credits on the one hand and on the exit scenario for the old programme on the other hand. Students who have to switch to the new programme will be contacted individually.

Students who did not pass/tolerate old courses must take the corresponding new course in their ISP. Students wo did pass/tolerate the old courses may not tick the boxes next to the new courses in their ISP; neither should they apply for an exemption, since the old courses remain automatically included in their ISP and Study Progress File.
Old courses and corresponding new courses often have a different number of credits. These differences can be compensated in the Electives group, by taking more or fewer electives. Students can only graduate if they have at least 180 credits in total and if their ISP meets all the course requirements.-

Seminars
24 credits must be taken from Seminars: 8 credits from Required Seminars plus 16 credits from Elective Seminars.
The Required Seminars must be taken in the first stage. The Elective Seminars are only open to second and third stage students. No seminar may be repeated over the three stages of study.-
Required Seminars
The required 1st stage seminars W0AN8A "Texts from the History of Philosophy: Seminar" (4 credits) and W0EC1B "Philosophical Anthropology: Seminar" (4 credits) will no longer be offered from 2020-2021 onward. Students who did not pass/tolerate one or both seminars should take the new BA1 course W0W10A "Continental Philosophy" (6 credits) instead. They can add this course to their ISP using the ‘free selection’ tool at the bottom of the ISP.
-
Elective Seminars
16 credits elective
The elective 2nd and 3rd stage seminars will no longer be offered from 2022-2023 onward. Students who still need a seminar to fulfill the requirements of the programme must contact the HIW Education and Students Office. The Programme Director will then work out an ad hoc solution for these students.

Electives
Over the three programme stages students choose electives from the elective lists so that they have around 60 credits per programme stage and at least 180 credits in total at the end of the bachelor programme.
At least 30 credits must come from Non-Philosophical Electives. At least 20 credits must be taken from Philosophical Electives.
First stage BA students must take all their electives from the list of Non-Philosophical Electives below; they may not yet take electives from the list of Philosophical Electives.
Second and third stage students may take all philosophical and non-philosophical electives. Service-Learning courses are only open to third stage students.-
Non-Philosophical Electives
At least 30 credits must be chosen from any of the following groups.
It is recommended that the students respect the course progression concerning the level (i.e. introductory courses first) and if possible the historical period.-
