Internship Physical Activity, Fitness and Health: Part 2 (B-KUL-L06I0C)
Aims
After completing this course the student is able to
- apply the knowledge of anatomy, pathology, kinanthropometry, physiology, performance training, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular prevention in a practical setting in different target populations.
- build a thrusting relationship with the target audience by using communicative and social skills
- take responsibility and show initiative in a professional manner
- formulate a personal opinion based on the theoretical and practical academic training, and on the related literature, including a comparison, to other organizations and / or initiatives where applicable
- reflect on new exercise trends in fitness settings and to present this reflection to peers, including a demo of the exercise
With respect to individual coaching/fitness:
- evaluate physical fitness and physical activity and subsequently guide the client towards an active lifestyle and / or to prepare and implement a customized exercise program
With respect to group fitness
- develop and implement independently a cycle of classes within the broad domain of group fitness (dance or non-dance) to clients in the commercial fitness industry, under the supervision of the tutor

The student has the following qualification:
- bachelor of science physical education and kinesiology
AND, in order to take this course, the student is obliged to take (or to have taken) courses on:
- all joint courses of the master of science in physical education and kinesiology (except for the master’s thesis part 1 and part 2) AND
- all courses of the chosen major
Prerequisites for students who are not registrered for the program bachelor of Physical Education and Movement Sciences/Master of Movement and Sports Sciences, but wish to include the course as a component of choice in their program:
These students should contact the coordinator of the course. On the basis of prior knowledge and motivation, the coordinator will determine whether or not the student can be admitted to the course.

Content
External internship
- coaching clients in a commercial fitness-setting
- Design specific exercise programmes for the customers
- Solving case studies
- Work in a team
- Preparing and implementing a complete training cycle in the broad field of group fitness (dance and / or non-dance form)
Students choose their own internship, in accordance with the guidelines described in the internship manual. A student cannot start the internship until formal approval has been given by the teaching team. The teaching team takes the student's preliminary phase into account.
