Seminar and Internship Sport on Demand: Part 2 (B-KUL-L03I9A)
Aims
After completing this course, the student is able to:
- professionally advise and assist elite athletes (youth and adults)
- independently translate acquired competencies and scientific insights into appropriate (individualized) training programs to prepare elite athletes for game situations
- to guide elite athletes during competitions
- to act as a scientific training expert in a Federation / club
This course contributes to:
- become familiar with the professional reality of training in a specific sport and the field of elite sports in Flanders (by means of guest lectures, independent studying, observations …)
- learn to communicate effectively with the different key players within the training process: representatives of the federation and the clubs, coaches, athletes, parents…

Previous knowledge:
It is highly recommended to have taken the courses Training and coaching sport on demand (eg L03D8B) and Internship sport on demand (eg L04D9B).
The student is already familiar with various aspects of coaching (young) athletes, on both a recreational and a club level. The student must have been actively involved in the supervision of (young) athletes in sports and in the organization of training courses.
Prerequisites credit contract:
Students are in possession of one of the following degrees:
- Bachelor in de lichamelijke opvoeding en bewegingswetenschappen
To follow this course the student is required to have followed all courses from the truncus and the major of his/her main subject, with the exception of MP part 1 and MP part 2.
Prerequisites for students who are not registrered for the program bachelor of Physical Education and Movement Sciences/Master of Movement and Sports Sciences, but wish to include the course as a component of choice in their program:
These students should contact the coordinator of the course. On the basis of prior knowledge and motivation, the coordinator will determine whether or not the student can be admitted to the course.

Content
In the seminar, sport specific topics that are closely related to the field, are offered. Attention is paid to the support of elite athletes (youth and seniors) on conditional, technical, tactical and psychological aspects.
The following topics are covered:
- talent detection and development
- Training preparation in order to periodization and specific objectives
- video analysis of performances
- measuring and evaluating the athlete’s performance in order to elaborate the training process
- injury prevention

4 ects. Internship Sport on Demand: Part 2 (B-KUL-L04I1a)
Content
By means of the internship, students are familiarized with the various aspects of sports performance coaching of athletes, both at the level of the club and the federation. During the internship, the student will be actively involved in the guidance and coaching of performance athletes and elite youth in the organization of trainings, internships and competitions at competition level. Thus the student can be fully proficient in the practice of training and coaching of performance athletes of all ages and skill levels.
The internship consists of external independent internship with the guidance of an external supervisor.
External independent training:
- Club internship, Federal trainings (organized by the sports federations with elite sports jurisdiction)
- Internship with a club team or youth elite athletes
- (senior) training days, workshops, clinics

The tasks of the student regarding the internship consists of the following aspects:
1. making or following the planning and periodization (club, federation)
2. preparing trainings, according to the periodization and the specific objectives proposed by the supervisor
3. performing scoutings (strength / weakness analysis) of a competitive athlete (physical, technical) and translating the results to elaborate training preparations
4. Outlining the position of the trainer, youth coordinator, sports coordinator within the club or federal structure.
5. Describing the club structure (internally and within the federation), describing of the federal (elite sport) structure.
6. Assisting activities during internship (preparation, evaluation, ...)
7. Coordinating the training activities
8. Making a portfolio of all trainings and related activities, initiatives and side information (log), including personal reflection
