Aims
Students get familiar with scientific research in a labo by participating in pending scientific research.
Previous knowledge
This course can only be taken if students have the statute of student-researcher. Interested students are invited to an interview with Zeger Debyser, Marc Decramer, Ludwig Missiaen and Frans Schuit in July. They will make a selection on the basis of motivation and grades. In addition, students must have passed at least the first bachelor year Medicine or Dentist.

- ability to analyse, synthesize and interpret
- observation ability
- being communicative (oral, written)
- scientific skilled

Content
Student-researchers are expected to do labowork for at least 8 weeks during their entire education programme. This work will be done in a research group of the Faculty of Medicine.Students can spread this over several academic years, but they must do their work in blocks of at least 4 weeks. It is recommended to do the main part of this research during the summer holidays.
Students earn 3 credit points if they have done at least 4 weeks of labowork.

During laboratory work, students develop an own project, supervised by a Senior Academic Staff member. They work on the real floor of an experimental laboratory in the Faculty of Medicine.

Explanation
The students’ functioning as researchers within a research unit is assessed permanently.
