Aims
The course is designed to provide students with insight into the origins, nature and significance of Europeans attitudes towards 'religion'. In line with this goal, the course examines the phenomenon of religion as it has come to expression in the European context, and reflects on the past, present and future significance of religion as an element of European thought and culture. RESEARCH PAPER
No final examination is possible unless the research paper has been submitted in strict accordance with the deadline indicated on Toledo.
Goals of the Research Paper
This segment of the course is designed to allow the student to reflect deeply and critically on a dimension of the European experience of religion, and on the prospects for religion in the contemporary European context. It does this by requiring a critical analysis of selected texts that are to be analysed and evaluated in light of a specific question or set of questions determined by the instructor at the outset of the academic year.
The aim of the paper is to allow the student to demonstrate that (1) she/he is thoroughly familiar with the required readings which have been assigned for the paper, (2) that she/he is capable of presenting the contents of the articles employed in the composition of the paper in a systematic, coherent and critical fashion, and (3) that she/he has acquired insight into the question that the paper is designed to address. Personal reflections are to be avoided.
