After following this course, you will be able to:

  • explain the historical and current international context of mental health physiotherapy including psychomotor therapy
  • distinguish between cognitive behavioral and experiential informed physiotherapy modalities
  • identify and clarify how to assess the motor and behavioral characteristics of children adolescents, adults and elderly with mild, moderate and severe mental health problems and / or long lasting musculoskeletal conditions
  • assess the body awareness of adults with mild, moderate and severe mental health problems and / or long lasting musculoskeletal conditions
  • describe how physiotherapists can work in private practices and within residential mental health care settings for children, adolescents; adults and elderly with mental health problems and / or long lasting musculoskeletal conditions
  • demonstrate the ability to resolve ethical issues faced during common clinical scenarios within mental health care settings
  • demonstrate the ability to cope with aggression encountered during common clinical scenarios within mental health care settings
  • create a personal self-care program

 

This course contributes to your ability to:

  • reflect on the role of a mental health physiotherapist within a wide range of clinical settings
  • understand the importance of physiotherapy within the multidisciplinary care of children adolescents, adults and elderly with mild, moderate and severe mental health problems and / or long lasting musculoskeletal conditions

The number of participants is limited to 20 for students who follow this course as an optional course with a Rehab specialisation other than Mental Health Care. In order to be able to make this course available as an optional course in an administrative and organizational feasible way, the admissions will be made in the order of application.

Prerequisites for students who are not enrolled in the Bachelor/Master programme of rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy, but who wish to include the course as an optional course in the diploma contract of their programme: These students must contact the course coordinator. On the basis of the student's previous knowledge and motivation, the coordinator will decide whether or not to admit the student to the course.

Basic concepts of mental illness and rehabilitation in individuals with mental health problems. The student should be motivated for experiential movement and body-oriented therapy for people with mental and intellectual disabilities (children, adolescents, adults and elderly).

Mixed prerequisite:
