The objective of the Interdisciplinary Assessment Project (IAP) is to offer students the opportunity to solve real business problems in interdisciplinary teams. By doing so, we meet the needs of companies, who consider interdisciplinary problem solving skills as a basic competence for new employees.

Every year, another topical subject is selected. Students will be working in teams of students in Business Engineering (KU Leuven, FEB, campus Brussels), Industrial Engineering (KU Leuven, FIIW, campus Ghent) and Business Administration (KU Leuven, FEB, campus Brussels) to study one or more business problems, for example in terms of technical feasibility, economic efficiency and sustainability. Via Agoria, the federation of the technological industry, we collaborate with about 10 technological companies.

Learning objectives of the course

  • Students will work in interdisciplinary teams to solve a real case in technological companies.
  • Students can go beyond the borders of the own study program, and come forward with solutions that are the result of interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • For one or more business problems, students can make recommendations that combine aspects coming from different disciplines (e.g. economics, technology, sustainability).
  • Students can formulate (written and orally) an advice for the given problem.
  • Students can defend their team solution and discuss the strengths and weaknesses with the company and with peer students.

  • (multi)disciplinary knowledge acquired in the study program
  • professional skills learned in earlier projects
