Master of Civil Engineering Technology (Programme for students started in 2023-2024 or later) (Ghent) (60 ECTS) Master of Science

Students with a degree obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community

Direct

On the basis of the following degrees, or similar degrees, obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community:

Bachelor in de industriële wetenschappen (Diepenbeek) (Afstudeerrichting bouwkunde)

After admission procedure

Students who hold a Flemish bachelor degree that does not grant direct access to the Master of Civil Engineering Technology may address their application to the programme coordinator of OC Bouwkunde - Ghent Campus - Faculty of Engineering Technology.

Students with a degree not obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community

Students who did not obtain their previous degree(s) at an institution of the Flemish Community should submit an application via the Admissions Office: https://www.kuleuven.be/english/application/.

You can find a list of core documents, which should be submitted with every application, here: https://www.kuleuven.be/english/application/requesteddocuments.

Diploma requirements

To be eligible and to ensure an optimal match with the programme, the following admission criteria apply:
- being holder of an honours bachelor’s degree (B.Sc., B.Tech., B.Eng., etc.) or master's degree in a related/cognate subject area
- having a clear affinity with the major
- having a solid background in science and mathematics

Language requirements

All applicants must prove their English language proficiency by means of an IELTS academic test, TOEFL test or Cambridge English Exam. The minimum score for IELTS is 6.5 (with a minimum sub-score of 5.5 for each of the four skills Listening, Writing, Speaking and Reading). The minimum score for the TOEFL internet based test is 80 (with a minimum sub-score of 19 for each of the four skills Listening, Writing, Speaking and Reading). Candidates who obtained an overall score of at least 176 with no less than 169 as a sub-score for each paper of the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) test meet the minimum requirement of the English language proficiency as well.

An exemption from the proof of English proficiency by means of the above mentioned tests is possible for applicants with a secondary education degree or a higher education degree obtained in Australia, English speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA: the certified degree and transcripts suffice, provided they confirm that the entire study was completed in English. Students who have obtained a Flemish diploma of secondary education are also exempted.

Additional requirements

Even though submitting a GRE test is not mandatory, we encourage applicants to submit such a test, as it can be an asset to your application.

Chinese students need an APS certificate. For exemptions see https://www.kuleuven.be/application/FAQ

Additional information

Application evaluation

All applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Office of KU Leuven (phase 1) and the Board of Admissions of the master programme (phase 2).

The Board of Admissions carefully considers all applicants who have provided all required documents. Application files of students not holding a required Flemish bachelor degree will be assessed taking into account all elements mentioned above.

If the Board of Admissions evaluates the application file positively (which means they are convinced that there is an optimal match between the master’s programme and the educational background of the applicant), the applicant will be granted access to the master’s programme.

If the Board of Admissions evaluates the educational background as insufficient to guarantee a good match with the programme and/or the level/academic excellency as not sufficient, the application will be rejected.

Application deadlines

- 1 March for applications of non-EEA citizens
