The program 'Master of Statistics and Data Science' has the following learning outcomes:

KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHT
The student

1. possesses thorough knowledge of and insight in the field of Statistics
2.
•  has a perspective on the research and consulting aspects of one or more subfields of statistics and data science: Statistics and Data Science for Biometrics, Statistics and Data Science for Social, Behavioral and Educational Sciences, Statistics and Data Science for Business, Statistics and Data Science for Industry, Theoretical Statistics and Data Science, Interdisciplinary Statistics and Data Science and European Master of Official Statistics.
•  understands similarities and differences between different statistical methodology and practice across different sub-fields of statistics and data science.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHT
3. has the competences and the insight to take the following steps in their own scientific research within a research team:
•  can handle scientific quantitative research questions in the application area, independently, effectively, creatively, and correctly using state-of-the-art design and analysis methodology and software.
•  has the skills and the habit to assess data quality and integrity.
•  knows the ethical, moral, legal, policy making, and privacy context of statistics and data science and always acts accordingly.

DEVELOPING AN OPINION
4. knows and understands the international nature of the field of statistics and data science.
5. knows the societal relevance of statistics and data science.
6. can critically appraise methodology and challenge proposals for reported results of data analysis.

COMMUNICATION
7. can work in an intercultural, and international team, and understands the need and importance of working in a multidisciplinary team.
8. is an effective written and oral communicator, as well as an effective negotiator, both within their own field as well as towards other disciplines in the context of multidisciplinary projects.
9. knows the common stakeholders and the need for assertive and empathic interaction with them.

LEARNING SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL AIMS
10. is capable of acquiring new knowledge.
11. routinely monitors their own learning process and adjusts and improves it accordingly


DEPENDING ON THE CHOSEN OPTION, THE STUDENT MASTERS FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL LEARNING OUTCOMES:
12. The master can act as a statistical consultant to subject-matter scientists and practitioners or/and as a collaborative researcher in an area of specialization.

THE PROGRAMME MASTER IN STATISTICS AND DATA SCIENCE HAS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATIONAL AIMS:

1. Being willing and capable to be a part of the international scientific community.

2. Being willing and capable to critically participate in the societal discussions regarding sustainability from one’s own expertise in the scientific domain.
