Students are introduced to the historiographic problem statement as applied to the sources of Antiquity.

The different components of historical critique are explained by means of examples from Antiquity, with an emphasis on looking up and using the antique sources. These sources are almost always published and often also extensively discussed by modern scholars, so sources and modern studies must always be used in correlation with one another.
