The course covers the following topics:

  • Possibilities and limitations of  language and speech technology
  • Regular languages and finite state automata
  • Computational morphology
  • Part of speech tagging and lemmatization
  • Electronic corpora
  • Contextfree grammars and parsing

Part of the course consists of a practicum in which the students acquire hands-on experience with natural language processing, writing simple programs in Perl.
