Learning and Behaviour (B-KUL-E06I0A)
Aims
This course deals with the most relevant themes in learning, behaviour, security and limitations for the age group 3-12 years old. The aim is to gain the scientific knowledge of these subjects, next to getting to know and being able to apply the methods of detection, analysis and guidance. Additionally, the student has to have a clear view on the welfare system for this age group and to be able to perform a preventive policy within the existing framework.
Previous knowledge
The student has followed the first year of the master in youth health care.

4.5 ects. Learning and Behaviour Themes (B-KUL-E06I1a)
Content
1. Learning and learning disorders:
- dyslexia, dyscalculia;
- pathology of language and speech development;
- school maturity.
2. Behaviour and mental health:
- behavioral problems;
- psychiatric problems;
- psychosomatics;
- social incompetent behaviour;
- school maturity.
3. Security and prevention of accidents.
4. The child with limitations:
- physical limitation;
- sensorial limitaion;
- mental retardedness;
- the chronically ill child.
5. Welfare system:
- primary school period.
Description of learning activities
Learning activities consist of:
independently processing scientific information that will be provided through reading assignments (theory): priority 1: obligatory literature, priority 2: recommended literature, priority 3: background information;
Participation in interactive classes in which, following the independent study, scientific elaboration will be provided (science);
contributing from personal practice experience in group discussions (professional practice);
scientific presentations (1 subject per student) (science and communication).
1.5 ects. Learning and Behaviour: Internship (B-KUL-E06I2a)
Content
The skill training (skill and communication, governing policy) is a permanent part of the educational course of the age bound discourse parts. Following the treated age group and thematics, the specific to be gained skills will be defined and trained in separate seminars.
Evaluation

Explanation
The evaluation will be based on a scientific presentation, quoted excercises and cooperation during the skills training, an oral exam with written preparation time.
