Aims
To impart knowledge of HRM-models and a selection of personnel-management techniques.
To familiarize students with the position and the operation of the HRM-function in contemporary organisations.
To confront students with the main developments in the scientific research concerning the measurement of HRM-contribution to corporation performances
Previous knowledge
The student should have basic insights into:
- the functioning of organisations and the management of organisations
- the functioning of people and groups in organisations
The student should have finished the course Introduction to Psychology or Sociology, Mens en Organisatie (bachelor TEW, HIR) or an equivalent course in another faculty.

Content
This course aims for a profound study of the first notions of personnel management that were discussed in 'Mens en Organisatie'.
In a first part we will zoom in on the contributions of HRM in organisations:
- Models of HRM (for example the Harvard-model, the Michigan-model)
- Models of HRM-contributions (for example the model of Ulrich)
- Working with balanced scorecards in the context of HRM
Next, we will zoom in on a few practical applications of HRM, more specifically on the fields of:
- Planning of personnel availability and personnel demands
- Methods of function- and competenty analysis
- The designing of recruitment selection procedures
- The designing of functioning- and performance assessment systems (including conversational models and assessment tendencies)
- Reward strategic analysis (wage level/wage composition, methods of function classification, performance rewarding and motivation)
- The developping of carrier policy in companies (carrier structures in organisations, carrier planning and carrier guiding)

Explanation
Determination exam result
* The exam is assessed by the titular(s), as announced on Toledo and the exam regulation. The result is calculated and expressed with a whole number on 20.
Evaluation third examination period
* The student has got two chances to take the exam per academic year: a first time in the first or second examination period and a second time in the third examination period.
* The evaluation properties of the third examination period are equal to those of the first or the second examination period.
Exam properties
* The exam consists of open questions.
