Facilities Design (B-KUL-D0H37A)
Aims
Providing models and insights which permit the improvement of the organisation of the production process. Special attention is paid to deterministic perspectives as well as its impact on stochasticity.

Activities
6.0 ects. Facilities Design (B-KUL-D0H37a)
Content
Typology of production systems. Fundamental structures: fixed place production, functional structure (job shop), pure flow production, line production with buffers, cell production in groups, flexible automatized systems, fractal and holonistic structures. Methods for generating lay-outs and accompanying internal transport problems. Warehouse storage and warehouse management.
Aims
In finishing this course, the student is able to:
- judge and optimalise the layout of a production-environment;
- determine an optimal arrangment of production machines in cells (and products in product families);
- balance an assembly-line (een assemblagelijn (U-shaped or not);
- judge a production process on its operational performance;
- calculate the impact of various variability factors on the course of the production process;
- calculate the impact of certain management decisions on the course of the production process.
Course material
Used study material:
- "Organisatie van het Productieproces (D0H37A) (Organisation of the production process): Partl II: Dynamisch gedrag van productiesystemen" (Dynamic behaviour of production systems), Hoofdstukken 6-10 uit W.Hopp en M.
