Understanding the basics of information theory (K2).

The student(-e) has mastered the basic laws of electricity in casu alternating current theory as well as differential and integral calculus and complex arithmetic.

The student has a thorough knowledge of the Fourier series development, the Fourier transform and the Laplace transform and their properties.

The student has a thorough basic knowledge of systems theory.

Mixed prerequisite:
You may only take this course if you comply with the prerequisites. Prerequisites can be strict or flexible, or can imply simultaneity. A degree level can be also be a prerequisite.
Explanation:
STRICT: You may only take this course if you have passed or applied tolerance for the courses for which this condition is set.
FLEXIBLE: You may only take this course if you have previously taken the courses for which this condition is set.
SIMULTANEOUS: You may only take this course if you also take the courses for which this condition is set (or have taken them previously).
DEGREE: You may only take this course if you have obtained this degree level.

(FLEXIBLE(T2AWS1) OR FLEXIBLE(T2AWS2)) AND (FLEXIBLE(T2AWI1) OR FLEXIBLE(T2AWI2))

The codes of the course units mentioned above correspond to the following course descriptions:
T2AWS1 : Wiskunde voor systemen
T2AWS2 : Mathematical Systems
T2AWI1 : Wisselstroomnetten
T2AWI2 : Alternating Current Grids

This course is identical to the following courses:

Evaluation

Evaluation: Transmission of Digital Information (B-KUL-T72169)

Type : Partial or continuous assessment with (final) exam during the examination period
Description of evaluation : Written, Report, Participation during contact hours, Process evaluation
Type of questions : Open questions
Learning material : List of formulas, Calculator

Lectures and exercises : one written examination

Lab: The lab is only continuously assessed. The continuous assessment is based on effort during the lab and reports.

The final result is calculated according to the clauses of the education- and exam regulations, including the amendments of the faculty.

An examination in the third examination period on educational activities that are continuously assessed can only improve a quota, but does replace continuous assessment for those who have withdrawn from the continuous assessment, e.g. by not participating in the laboratory activities.

Participation in the continuously assessed activities is mandatory. Students who miss one or more sessions due to circumstances they do not control (e.g. illness) must justify their absence in writing (e.g. a doctor's note). They must reach an agreement with the lecturer on how they will make up for the activities they missed.

This course unit allows partial mark transfers in case of partial pass mark:

  • Transmission of Digital Info: Lect + Ex (during and beyond academic year)
  • T3pTD2 - Transmission of Digital Information: Lab Session (during and beyond academic year)

Lectures and exercises: modalities similar to the first examination period

Lab: complementary exam

An examination in the third examination period on educational activities that are continuously assessed can only improve a quota, but does replace continuous assessment for those who have withdrawn from the continuous assessment, e.g. by not participating in the laboratory activities.
