Aims
1. to review theoretical concepts in the understanding of disability as a social and cultural phenomenon; in particular theories concentrating ons stigma, liminality, interstitiality and the various model that frame disability. The possibility of a cultural model of disability is critically examined.
2. systematic inquiries into disability community and dis ability cultures, life history and narrative research, the impact of globalization, and the working of local settings, in particular the interface between disability and the city.
Previous knowledge
This course is research- based and is intended to stimulate social and cultural research on disability.
Therefore, students with research interests in disability in social and cultural contexts are sought.
