Aims

  • To gain an insight in the basic features and concepts of  christian liturgy and liturgical studies
  • To acquire an understanding of the history of liturgy and more specifically, of the sacraments
  • To study the principles and questions of general sacramentology and the meaning of the seven sacraments

Previous knowledge

Possible topics include:



  • history of liturgy 
  • Vatican II and liturgy; the preparation of the Liturgical Movement; 'Sacrosanctum Concilium'
  • the liturgical year
  • questions of general sacramentology 
  • history, theology and liturgy of the sacraments of christian initiation 
  • history, theology and liturgy of the sacraments of healing (reconciliation and anointing) 
  • meaning of the sacraments of vocation (mariage and holy orders)
  • the liturgy of the hours 
  • Oriental liturgical rites 
  • liturgical space
