Aims

  • To introduce students into the world of the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible), its contents, and the exegetical methods used to study it.
  • To present exegetical strategies for analysing and interpreting the biblical texts.
  • To learn how to deal with textual and literary problems, and to discern the theological contents of the texts.
  • To develop an exegetical strategy to enable students to read and to interpret the Synoptic Gospels, on the basis of a representative selection of central texts.
  • Practical exercises on the use of scientific tools and of exegetical methods (diachronic and synchronic) to enable students to engage in the exegesis of a text unit of the Synoptic Gospels in a personal and scientific way.
  • To obtain insight into the question of the hermeneutical relevance of the Synoptic Gospels and their exegetical study for contemporary Christians/persons.
