Aims
The course will aim at developing an integral vision of the Church’s mission in the world today. The course will be taught in 2011-2012 by prof. dr. Michael Amaladoss.
Content
Starting with the contemporary crisis in mission owing to historical and theological developments in the post-colonial and post-Vatican II period, we shall make a brief overview of mission in the history of the Church. Then we shall explore how post-Vatican II praxis and reflection has led to a deepening, broadening and sharpening of the vision of mission. This will lead us to understand how mission is seen as a three-fold dialogue of the Gospel with the poor, the cultures and the religions in the world. We will then see the challenges of mission today as liberation, inculturation and inter-religious dialogue and how these can be lived and practiced. We will then explore the challenges of ‘new evangelization’ in a secular world. We shall try to see what are the different challenges of mission in different parts of the world, depending upon the participants in the course. We shall conclude with a reflection on a spirituality for mission.
Course Materials:
Besides lectures and discussions and a select bibliography, a number of key articles will be uploaded on the net for consultation.
This course is included in
