The Erasmus Mundus consortium uses common admission criteria for the EMM-Nano program. Admitted are Bachelor students in Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Electrical Engineering, Material Science or a related discipline, with a proven background in mathematics and physics or chemistry. A minimum of 180 ECTS credits and a GPA (Grade Point Average) of at least 75% of the scale maximum is required.

Students should prove a good command of English, both spoken and written. All non-native speakers are required to submit an English proficiency test: IELTS overall band score of at least 6.5 or a TOEFL score of at least 580 (paper based) or 237 (computer based) or 92 (internet based). These tests are not required for native English speaking students or if students can prove that some of their previous studies were successfully completed in English.

The admission policy is intended to ensure equal opportunity of access to higher education for qualified European and third country students.

A common application and selection procedure is used for all students.

All applications are administered by the central International Office (IO) of the KU Leuven and evaluated by a common selection commission.

The selection criteria are the applicant's background and previous education, the applicant's excellence based on the obtained GPA, the English language skills and the completeness of the application file.
