Objectives and exit qualifications | |
The main goal of the programme is the study of French linguistics and literature, both in their theoretical aspects and in their applications. The overall aim of the programme is to train students who, thanks to a thorough knowledge and command of the French language, are able to investigate and situate relevant linguistic and literary research topics in an autonomous way and to communicate their findings and insights effectively. This aim implies a command of French as a prerequisite for research and scientific communication. It also implies a good grasp of research procedures, including a systematic methodological training and experience of research work, e.g. through the writing of a MA dissertation under the supervision of qualified staff. Building on BA degrees in languages and literatures, the programme emphasizes the development of a sound theoretical and methodological framework, the ability to take part in critical debates about data and research findings, and the stimulation of independent thinking. - The student is thoroughly familiar with 'state of the art' research in a particular field of French linguistics or literature. - The student has developed expertise in research work in that area. - The student is also familiar with 'state of the art' research in at least one field of the other discipline (literature if his main emphasis is on linguistics and vice versa) - The student is able to investigate, situate, structure and analyse research questions in linguistics and literature and to formulate answers if necessary. - The student has the communicative skills required to report, both orally and in writing, about research findings and insights.
