Doelstellingen

This master's programme brings students to the advanced level of knowledge and skills that is associated with scientific work in the broad sense, and more particularly to those areas of the engineering sciences that are related to energy technology. This training aims to deliver knowledgeable and versatile industrial engineers who are rapidly deployable in the field. To this end , the programme pays special attention to practice and technology through laboratory sessions using appropriate infrastructure.

Depending on the interests of the student, as well as social and economic evolutions, the focus can be placed on:
o  optimizing the electrical and/or thermal energy supply in industrial and residential environments, with a focus on energy efficiency and optimal use of renewable energy systems. This refers to the generation, distribution and use of energy, and on the management of energy flows.
or
o  automation and technical management of systems and processes in the broad sense, industrial data communications and their applications in the automation of industrial processes and manufacturing with a view to optimizing the production volume, safety, energy efficiency, quality and/or cost.

Degree holders are capable of carrying out applied scientific research independently, and are able to use their creativity to analyse complex problems in their domain, translate them to a scientific discourse and tackle them in a responsible way, either individually or as part of a team. In doing this, they take into account the economic conditions, as well as social, legal and ethical aspects. Graduates are able to autonomously apply the scientific knowledge and acquired skills in a broad social context. They possess the necessary organisational skills to hold executive positions.

Graduates obtain the professional title of industrial engineer. Students can enrol in this initial master's programme on a full-time or part-time basis at the campuses in Bruges, Geel, Ghent, De Nayer Sint-Katelijne-Waver (Dutch) or Diepenbeek (English and Dutch). Each campus focuses on a specific research area and is equipped with high-tech laboratories to conduct research in their respective fields.

This is a joint programme hosted by UHasselt and KU Leuven. For more information (also on the learning outcomes), please visit the UHasselt website.
