4.0 ects. Seminar Sociology (part 1) (B-KUL-S0A84a)
Content
The seminar will be close as regards to content to the course Methods of social-scientific research and has the aim to apply some of the content of those courses in the concrete research practice. The focus in the assignments that will be worked out will be on the development- and observation phase of a research. The assignments will be integrated in one teaching reserach. The theme as regards to content is different each year, however it is always directed towards an aspect of the living situation of youngsters.
During the development there will be attention dedicated ot the problem formulation, defining the reserach population, put concepts, elements of validity and sample surveys into operation.
The construction of a question list and conducting of interviews will be central when the observation phase is discussed.
Furthermore a data set will be constructed and a limited analysis will be conducted to formulate an answer to the most important research questions.

To implement and practise the various components of a social scientific research in practice. In the concrete it is taught how to elaborate a problem formulation, how to compile a questionnaire, how to draw a sample, how to take interviews, how to make a data set and how to implement and report an elementary analysis.
